For janitorial crews, facilities teams, marinas, and service contractors that need a reliable, eco-friendly acidic cleaner at scale. Available in a 55-gallon drum for central storage, drum pump dispensing, and proportioning systems across large sites and multiple locations.

MA5X Vinegar 5% Cleaner in the 55-Gallon Drum is the same vinegar and alcohol formula used in our consumer sizes, scaled for commercial volume. The combination of 5% acetic acid and 2-propanol (isopropanol) delivers streak-free performance on glass, stainless steel, chrome, tile, and painted surfaces that plain bulk vinegar drums cannot match, making it a practical upgrade for operations standardizing on a single eco-friendly cleaner across janitorial, marine interior, and facility maintenance tasks.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 5% acetic acid with alcohol - not plain vinegar: The addition of 2-propanol accelerates evaporation and improves streak-free performance on glass, stainless steel, and chrome compared to straight bulk vinegar, delivering consistent results from the same drum across multiple surface types.
  • Multi-surface standardization: Suitable for marine interiors, docks, decks, restrooms, offices, break areas, and light equipment wipe-downs, allowing operations to consolidate purchasing and simplify staff training across janitorial and marine teams.
  • Environmentally responsible: Biodegrades readily and is not expected to bioaccumulate, supporting green cleaning programs when paired with proper collection and disposal practices.
  • Non-regulated for transport: Not classified as a hazardous material under DOT, simplifying drum shipping, storage in mixed warehouses, and chemical compliance documentation at receiving facilities.
  • Built for bulk handling: Standard 55-gallon drum integrates with metering pumps, wall-mounted dispensers, and auto scrubber fill stations for predictable dilution control and streamlined inventory across multiple sites.

Dilution & Application

For spray and wipe cleaning, dilute up to 1:1 with water for heavy mineral or salt deposits, or up to 1:4 for routine glass, stainless steel, and surface maintenance. Charge secondary containers from the drum using a proportioner or drum pump. For mop buckets and auto scrubbers, add approximately 4-8 ounces per gallon of water, adjusting based on soil load and surface sensitivity. Always test in an inconspicuous area before broad use on polished stone or specialty finishes.

Marine Use Guide — Where It Works & What to Avoid

5% acetic acid is widely used in marine environments for specific tasks, but it must be matched to the right surface. The following guidance helps marine teams get maximum value from this product without risking damage to vessel surfaces or fittings.

Recommended marine applications:

  • Water spots and light waterline stains: Apply diluted solution (1:3 vinegar to water) by spray bottle and wipe with a soft cloth in a circular motion. Effective on mild mineral deposits at the waterline where stronger acids are not needed.
  • Marine heads and calcium scale: Pour solution into the bowl and pump slowly through the discharge hose so it dwells in the line for 1-2 hours. This dissolves calcium scale from saltwater flushing without the hazard profile of muriatic acid treatments. Flush thoroughly with fresh water afterward.
  • Glass, portlights, and cabin windows: Excellent streak-free performance on tempered glass, acrylic, and Isinglass. The alcohol component improves evaporation over straight vinegar.
  • Tile, non-skid deck surfaces, and cabin interiors: Effective on soap film, salt residue, and mild hard water deposits in marine heads, galleys, and interior surfaces.
  • Stainless steel grab rails and fittings (routine maintenance): Diluted solution handles water spots and light surface film. Rinse promptly with fresh water after application.

Surfaces and situations to avoid:

  • Gelcoat and fiberglass - follow with wax: Vinegar will not directly damage gelcoat at standard dilutions, but it strips the protective wax layer, leaving the surface exposed to UV damage and oxidation. If used on gelcoat for water spot removal, always reapply marine wax immediately after rinsing.
  • Bare or anodized aluminum - limit contact time: Acetic acid reacts with aluminum, and prolonged exposure or abrasive scrubbing can begin to dissolve the surface in ways that may not be immediately visible. Use diluted, rinse promptly, and do not allow to sit or dry on aluminum pontoons, trim, or fittings.
  • Stainless steel in saltwater environments - short contact only: In marine environments where stainless is already exposed to chlorides from saltwater, acetic acid can accelerate pitting corrosion with prolonged contact. Apply diluted, rinse immediately, and dry thoroughly. Not recommended as a soak treatment for stainless marine hardware.
  • Uncured epoxy and sealants: Acetic acid stops the curing process and softens uncured epoxy. Never apply near recently applied marine epoxy, 5200 sealant, or other curing adhesives.
  • Heavy rust, barnacle growth, or severe waterline staining: At 5% acidity, this product is effective for light to moderate mineral deposits only. For heavy barnacle residue, rust staining, or severe waterline buildup, use MA5X Barnacle Remover or Hull Cleaner - purpose-formulated phosphoric acid products with the strength required for those tasks.
